Psychotherapy for healing,
selfunderstanding and meaningful change

A compassionate space to explore your inner world

A warm welcome to my website

Tara McCartney - Psychotherapist & psychological Counsellor

Life can be challenging.

At other times, there may be a quieter feeling that something is missing — a sense that you are living, achieving and functioning, but not fully connected to yourself.

Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of your experiences and discover new ways of relating to yourself and others.

I provide a grounded and accepting environment where you can bring the parts of yourself that may have felt unseen, unheard or difficult to understand.

Understanding your story

AN Healing begins with awareness

Every person has a unique story.

The patterns we develop, the ways we protect ourselves, and the beliefs we hold about who we are have usually emerged for good reasons. Therapy is not about judging these patterns or trying to force change. It is about bringing curiosity and compassion to the parts of ourselves that need understanding.

Together, we explore your experiences, emotions, relationships and inner world — creating the possibility for greater self-awareness, freedom and choice.

About Tara

I am an integrative psychotherapist based in Northern Ireland. My path to psychotherapy has been shaped by a lifelong curiosity about what it means to be human and how we find our way through suffering, change and the search for meaning.

For fifteen years I lived in India, where I explored different ways of understanding the mind, human nature and contemplative practice. Alongside my professional training in psychotherapy, these experiences continue to inform the way I work today—grounded in psychology while remaining open to the deeper questions that often emerge as we heal and grow.

A Life of Curiosity

Looking back, there has been a common thread running through every stage of my life.

From an early age I was drawn to ideas. Philosophy, literature, psychology, spirituality, science and the arts all fascinated me. I wanted to understand people, question assumptions and explore the many ways we make sense of our lives.

That curiosity led me through very different worlds. I have worked in corporate organisations, international development, entrepreneurship and education. I have lived across cultures, encountered different philosophies and spent many years searching for answers outside myself.

Over time, that search became something quieter.

I came to realise that lasting change is rarely found through acquiring more knowledge or striving to become someone different. Instead, it begins with learning to meet ourselves with greater honesty, awareness and compassion.

That understanding continues to shape both my life and my work.     Read More

Testimonials

Tara is an authentic person and a courageous coach. In my sessions with her, she pushed me beyond my comfort zone – but always stayed empathetic and humourful. She has tremendous presence in sessions and I always feel well heard and nurtured. Together we worked on long standing limiting beliefs, discovered their source and worked consistently and effectively on removing them so that I could lead a more fulfilling life. Now that I have moved beyond my prior mind set with Tara’s help, I am leading a much more peaceful and fulfilling life.

Joshua – Germany

I’d been feeling anxious and low for quite some time. Tara helped me understand my needs and boundaries better and how to ask for and get what I need. She supported me through some very emotional times and was patient with my slow progress. Later, as I made some difficult changes, she was there to help me navigate and deal with my fears and worries. Tara helped me turn around my stuckness in life and guided me into much deeper self- awareness.

Angela – Ireland

I came to Tara in crisis and she gave me back my confidence and peace of mind. She made me feel at ease straight away and came across as very knowledgeable and experienced from the outset. I was able to discuss my inner world with her and get insight into how to understand all the conflicting feelings I had. I always felt energised and a little more knowledgeable after spending time with her. Those hours were like a break from the storm and they gave me the rest and the courage I needed to put my life back together.
